Commitment â means big stuff Boss!!!
Hi there, Today as I sit to write this article at 10:54pm, I have just done with my MBA lecturers, had dinner and just thought of putting down my thoughts. I am thoroughly impressed by my Prof - Mr Iqbal Jiwani. I still remember my first lecture. He was introduced to us as Prof Iqbal who was to teach us Introduction to Management. He not only explained us the topics inside the book but also introduced us to the outside world realities and practical happenings. They say Studies in India are far away from the practical life. They are two ends. Believe me it’s a fact but then Prof introduced us to both elements parallely. I could say instead of feeding a person with fishes daily, he was teaching us fishing!!!!! He began with an Introduction and then said MBA is not in this book, its in each one of you. You all know all the concepts covered in this. It is my job how to polish you so as to make you stand out and express it. He asked us to present ourselves in an innovative way. He said, when you are an MBA you will be working as a Manager. At that level, you will not be asked nitty gritties of managements. You will be presented with problems and will be looked upon to provide creative solutions, which will further elevate you from the present level to the next on your career path. He divided IM into Planning, Organising, Leading, Staffing, Controlling and International Management. Also the class was divided into 6 groups and everyone was to select a leader, group name and a tag line and give their presentations. The rule of the game was it should not be like a newsreader it should have a creative element to it. We were given Staffing as a topic. I spent three days thinking on how could I prove my mettle, rather show him that yes this batch had it in them and we could do it since I knew it very well that if we show him the spark, he would value that and work on further development. Finally third night at around 2am a brilliant idea clicked me. I quietly took my book, pen and went to the hall. Switched on the lights quietly without making any noise. It was so divine early morning wee hours, I started jotting down my crystal clear thoughts, even modified them. Within one hours my plan to act a humorous plan on Staffing was ready with role models, dialogues etc. I was so excited and happy. It was 3:30am and I happily went back to sleep. I saw the same play in my dream and next morning first thing, gave it a final touch. I got up at 7am, very fresh and with a burning desire to start working on my plan. I discussed it with my family, they loved it. After reaching office, I shared it with some of my trustworthy colleagues who were amazed at the idea. I discussed it with my MBA friends and they agreed to support. I have shared the play online. Believe me it’s a divine feeling when you actually use your creative thinking, make a beautiful plan which you are sure will succeed and get the response saying, “I know you all would do something good but you guys are far above my expectation. ” My God!!! I was on Cloud 9. My friends were honest enough to admit in front of the class that I was the mastermind. Sorry to have deviated from the topic. So coming back to commitment, well above example was also regarding commitment, isn’t it?? That means I had not deviated. Anyways, coming to the main point what influenced me to write this article. Last week we received an sms informing Professor’s mother had expired. We visited the bereaved family (made a blunder and the lesson learnt is again posted as my article on net), today we had a lecture from Prof Iqbal. He was very low last Sunday, he loved his Mother immensely. I thought today also he must be in a sad mood, will teach coming straight to the point. But he amazed me, he was back with full strength, smiling and sharing the bookish as well as the worldly practical examples. I somehow could feel his sorrow through his eyes. When the lecture was over, a student asked him for some doubts. He announced if anyone could volunteer and solve her doubts. I happily exclaimed saying yes I would take the challenge. He said good and was happy that in turn the things would be revised and thorough for me. After the lecture, I smsed him, “Thank you for the wonderful lecture. It really made the chapter easy. Beyond everything, I learnt an important lesson of making a difference in others life regardless of your personal problems, Good night. ” As Prof Iqbal says, bad times, recessions, tough life will come in each ones life. We all have to face the tough phase in our lives. The winner is the one who uses commitment as his tools and emerges as a leader. If you have to do it, you have to do it!!!! Commitment indeed means big stuff Boss!!!
